Social Action
A leading provider of programs to children and youth, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC) is committed to advancing the well-being of children, youth and their families across Canada. Our communities are changing, inequality is increasing, and economic and social disparities are negatively impacting the ability of young Canadians to be healthy and safe, and to reach their full potential as they grow toward adulthood.
BGCC is dedicated to addressing these social ills by working in partnership with coalitions and other organizations to develop positions, policies and influence legislation that enhance child and youth well-being in Canada. BGCC intends to work closely with government – through information, recommendations and awareness-building activities. BGCC engages with the Government of Canada through government funded projects, information days with Members of Parliament, through government initiated policy consultations, and through briefs to various Standing Committees of the Parliament of Canada.
Goals we are focused on with regard to children and youth:
- Increase healthy active living
- Prevention and reduction of aggression, violence and abuse
- Equal access to safe, enriching environments
- Promotion of healthy peer-to-peer and adult/child relationships
- Crime prevention through social development
Our Approach
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada approaches child and youth development from a positive, preventative developmental perspective. Our experience indicates that by creating supportive environments and opportunities using this approach, Boys and Girls Clubs effectively contribute to crime prevention and health promotion.
