Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada's National Youth Conference is generally held every two years. This event brings together Boys and Girls Club youth, aged 15 to 19, from across Canada to develop lasting friendships, gain new skills and knowledge from experts and each other; and discuss ways to make their future -- and the future of all Canadian young people -- a better one.

National Youth Conference 2009

University of New Brunswick, Saint John Campus

Saint John, New Brunswick

From May 20-24, 2009, youth from across Canada gathered in Saint John, N.B. for
Click ’09, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s (BGCC) National Youth Conference. Proudly hosted by  Boys and Girls Club of Saint John and the BGCC National Youth Council,
Click ’09 gave youth the opportunity to explore how they can address personal, local and global challenges.

The theme of the conference was “CLICK – When it Clicks, it Makes Sense”. Whether it is a relationship, a cultural awareness, an idea, or understanding a part of yourself...it just has to “click.”

Click ’09 featured exciting speakers, workshops and activities exploring a range of important issues for youth today, including healthy living, bullying, environmental responsibility, social activism and much more.

One of the highlights of the conference was the keynote address by Michel Chikwanine, of Me to We (a division of Free the Children) - a twenty-year-old former child soldier who fled his home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo at age eleven and is now a proud Canadian. He now serves as an ambassador of peace, having spoken to young people across North America sharing his message of hope and helping young people like him realize their potential as change-makers.
