Design and build a website, using original content, on a topic or theme of your choice.  The site must include a minimum of 3 pages to a maximum of 10 pages.

  • Learn about graphic design and the planning involved in creating a website
  • Learn a bit about HTML, a code used to display web pages
  • Use Microsoft FrontPage®website creation and management tool to build your own site

Go to www.webbyawards.com to see some great Web pages and get ideas. There are lots of different categories to view. There are two kinds of awards: those chosen by Web designers (the Webbys) and those picked by everyday people (the People's Choice).

Internet Safety:

Please note: Look at these Internet Safety Tips with your Club instructor or visit www.bewebaware.ca before getting started.  If you’re using the Internet to research your project or create a website for your project, it’s important to understand the following before you begin:

  • There are millions of websites and millions of people using the Internet. We have to be careful.
  • Talk to your Club instructor about when you can get online, for how long and what kinds of things it's OK to do.
  • NEVER give any personal information about yourself until you've talked to your parents or your Club instructor. Do not post your last name, address or phone number on the Web, unless an adult supervisor has given you the ok.
  • If you feel funny about something you see on a web page or in an e-mail, talk to your Club instructor or your parents.
  • Be careful of viruses. These can make your computer "sick." Ask your Club instructor about the anti-virus software on your computer.

When designing your site, think about:

  • Ease of navigation i.e. layout of the site (how the text & images will be organized on the page) Make a flowchart of the site content
  • Design or look of the site: Creative use of graphics and text i.e. fonts (type faces) you’ll use, colours etc.
  • Use of original content i.e. images and text you’ll use on the site
  • Decide who might visit your Web site and why
  • Storyboard your Web site (ie: make pictures on paper of each page of the site to help you decide what they will include)
  • Who is the audience?
  • What is the purpose of the site?

You can create a Website about almost anything. Here are some ideas:

  • Your Boys and Girls Club
  • Your Keystone or Torch Club
  • Your favourite sports team or activity/hobby
  • Someone you admire (by creating a Fan Web Page. For this project, make up a pretend name rather than using real personal information.)
  • Your own online resume (Remember the rules about posting personal information on the Web. For this project, make up a pretend identity.)
  • Something you think is special or very interesting
