The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada Foundation was established in 1995 to help support Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC), the 104 member Clubs, and the children and youth that Clubs serve across Canada.

The Foundation’s support ensures the ability of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada to continue to play a vital role in building brighter futures for Canadian children and youth – now and for generations to come.

History

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada Foundation evolved from the Endowment Fund Board of Trustees which was established in 1968 to oversee an endowment fund created through the fundraising efforts of Alan D. McCall and other directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC) national board. The Endowment Fund was supplemented by a generous donation from R. Howard Webster. In 1981, Mr. Webster made a five-year gift of $1.25 million for the purpose of distributing grants to Clubs and the national organization, thereby establishing the R. Howard Webster Special Project Fund, which was supported annually by the R. Howard Webster Foundation until 2009. In 1985, the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation donated $1.5 million to establish the J.W. McConnell Trust Fund as a fund within the Endowment Fund.

A new campaign was launched in 2005, stimulated by a matching gift challenge from the R.H. Howard Webster Foundation of $500,000. The match was met and exceeded with total new contributions and pledges to the Endowment of $3.8 million by the campaign conclusion in 2008. To date, the Fund has distributed over $2.8 million to Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada, supporting their capital and equipment needs and development priorities.

Board of Trustees

The members of the Board are committed to making certain that the organization has the resources, tools and support needed to give every child the opportunity to benefit from the experience of a Boys and Girls Club.
