The Whitney Pier Youth Club Society (WPYC) is a youth oriented, non-profit registered charity. Formally known as the Sydney Police Boys and Girls club, the organization has been in operation since 1989. In 1994 the club adapted to the WPYC and operates under a volunteer Board of Directors. On January 1, 2011 the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cape Breton, formerly known as the Whitney Pier Youth Club announced its newly acquired, provisional membership with Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.
The Club has a mandate to provide relevant programs that meet the needs of today’s youth. Our Club supports the healthy social, emotional, educational, cultural and physical development of children and youth in our community. Our organization is proud of its reputation in the community as a leader in innovative responses to the needs of our young members and their families. The growth and development of each and every young person that comes to a Boys and Girls Club is our primary concern. Services and support to young people and their families are based on identified community needs and the goal of linking young people with the promise of a future. Boys and Girls Clubs are accessible to all young people. Membership fees are extremely low and no child is turned away due to inability to pay. Clubs effectively serve youth from neighborhoods where other services are scarce or unaffordable.
The Club has full and part time Youth Workers, who provide guidance, supervision, and leadership while serving as positive role models and mentors for young people. The Club uses an approach that has proven effective in positively impacting the lives of children at risk by building self-esteem and developing values and skills during critical periods of childhood growth.
The BGCCB, WPYC Club offered a variety of after school and out of school programs that include homework help, games, physical activity and nutrition, computer and technology learning, the arts, as well as youth focused programs that encourage self-esteem, life skills development and leadership. The Club also offers a Summer Program.
We provide service throughout the school year from our Lunch Program 12:00PM Noon to 1:00 PM to our Afterschool Program 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and our Evening Programs from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.

The BGCCB, WPYC depends on the support of community sponsors to assist with the financial burden incurred in the creation and maintenance of programming. We also establish partnerships with various agencies in the community that can offer specific resources and services to youth that may be unavailable to youth who come to the Club for help with various issues.
