Programs: National

Kids like our programs because they're fun and parents because they're reliable. Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s national programs also address serious problems facing Canada’s children and youth including:

  • childhood obesity/inactivity
  • child safety
  • child poverty & hunger
  • bullying
  • low self-esteem & self-image
  • academic failure and school drop-out
  • youth crime and marginalization

Through our national programs, we are building Canada’s capacity for future success by:

  • tackling youth issues that are at the heart of every community
  • believing in the potential of Canadian children and youth
  • making our communities better places to live and grow up

Healthy Active Living Programs

Poor diet and inactivity are threatening the short and long term health of our young people. In the past 20 years the rate of obesity in children has tripled to 26%. More than 90% of Canada’s children do not meet the country’s physical activity guidelines. Nearly 60% of children get less than five servings of fruit and vegetables a day.

Our healthy active living programs are intended to address these issues by helping kids adopt healthy attitudes and behaviours around being active and eating well.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada wants young people to embrace the future with confidence and lots of options. Today, a good education is critical to finding work, achieving financial security and being able to contribute to society as adults. Through access to technology, tutoring and academic support programs,  our programs give young people opportunities to strengthen and acquire new academic skills, test their abilities and enhance career readiness.
