Future Shop Future Leaders - Scholarships for Today's Youth
The post secondary scholarship program has been the cornerstone of Future Shop’s contributions to Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada in the past 10 years and has assisted over 500 of our youth pursue and accomplish their post secondary goals. Future Shop is the largest private sector supporter of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada scholarships in the country
2010 marks the tenth consecutive year that Future Shop has supported the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, and will offer 25 Future Shop Future Leader Scholarships to BGC members who are enrolling or continuing their post-secondary education. Each scholarship is valued at $4,000: consisting of $3,000 in tuition support to an accredited post-secondary institution of the student's choice, as well as a $1,000 Future Shop gift card to help with academic necessities.
Future Shop will introduce the Future Generation Scholarship Program in 2010 to support students earlier in their education. 25 scholarships will be offered annually to Grade 10 students; the $4000 scholarships which is inclusive of a $1000 gift card for the purchase of laptop, computer or other educational tools will help students as they progress towards graduation and $3000 towards post-secondary tuition upon graduation. Details on the Future Generation Scholarships will be released in the spring of 2010 and posted when available.
CanTech
 Future Shop has also supported BGCC by working together with Microsoft Canada in 2002, to support a national Boys and Girls Club learning program called Can Tech. This exciting program gives club members throughout Canada access to computer technology tools and training that will help them become the leaders of the future. Future Shop provided Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada with 400 computer systems to create or upgrade Technology Centres in 95 Clubs and provided technical support expertise to the process.
 Future Shop, in partnership with LG Electronics, has also provided local Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada with brand-new fridges and stoves in 2003 through "Kids in the Kitchen". Thanks to this partnership, 100 clubs each received a donation of an LG fridge or microwave oven in support of club programs that provide healthy meals and snacks for kids and education about the importance of good nutrition. |
