Riley Calderhead has been a member of Boys and Girls Clubs of Hamilton since he was a kid, visiting the Club several times a week to take part in favourite activities like swimming and music classes.
Riley is also heavily involved in the local community. In addition to time at the Boys and Girls Club, he has volunteered in local churches, at an orchestra, in summer camps, and for other youth programs. By the end of high school, Riley had amassed over 400 hours of volunteer work!
And yet despite his work ethic and ability, Riley faced major barriers to education after high school.
Raised by grandparents, and with no financial support from his parents, his pursuit of a career in software engineering was in doubt.
But thanks to support from Fidelity’s multi-year scholarship program, this fall Riley will begin the engineering program at McMaster University.
“For me, this scholarship represents a chance to pursue a future that I want,” says Riley. “This is a very exciting time for me, and I’m grateful to Fidelity for making my educational pursuits possible.”
Thank you Fidelity Investments!
