Thanks to generous funding from the Sedin Family Foundation, BGC Canada will partner with the Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre to bring their national parenting program, Parents Together, to Port Hardy, BC.

Parents Together provides a non-judgmental setting and a flexible curriculum that allows facilitators to focus on the key issues impacting local parents and teens, and contribute to a support network that strengthens the Port Hardy community.

Informed by the latest research, BGC Canada’s parenting programs teach effective parenting skills, increase awareness of community resources, and emphasize self-care for parents. The programs offered at BGC work to create strong, positive family relationships and improve the health and well-being of both young people and their parents or caregivers.

“By helping parents navigate critical years in adolescent development, Parents Together fosters community-building and has long-term positive effects on teens and their families,” said Owen Charters, President & CEO, BGC Canada. “We are very pleased to partner with the Sedin Family Foundation and the Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre to reach more parents in the Port Hardy area.”

“We approached Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada with the idea of expanding their respected parenting program to Port Hardy and were happy to find strong interest from the community,” said Henrik Sedin. “In addition to Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, Johanna and I want to thank the Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre for their leadership in implementing the program in their community for the first time.”

The Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre believes in building strong communities. Experienced staff will receive additional training from BGC Canada to facilitate Parents Together, and will also have access to a community of parenting educators across the country who share resources, new material, and educational opportunities regularly.

“It is an honour to receive the support of the Sedin Family Foundation and to form this partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre strives to bring capacity and opportunities to our Indigenous families,” said Janet Hanuse, Executive Director, Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre. “This program helps parents to support each other and build stronger families within the Port Hardy community.”

“As parents ourselves we understand the value of sharing information, ideas, and experience with fellow parents as we all want the best for our children. Marinette and I hope families in Port Hardy will find the program helpful and informative,” said Daniel Sedin.
