Gathering at the nation\u2019s capital, the winners of the Kid Food Nation recipe contest flew in from all across Canada.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/kidfoodnation.ytv.com\/recipes\/baked-arctic-char-with-citrus-relish-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Baked Arctic Char<\/a> in Iqaluit, to <a href=\"https:\/\/kidfoodnation.ytv.com\/recipes\/jamaican-chicken-soup-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jamaican Chicken Soup<\/a> in Toronto, and <a href=\"https:\/\/kidfoodnation.ytv.com\/recipes\/garlic-moose-melt-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Garlic Moose Melt<\/a> in Newfoundland &amp; Labrador, the gala\u2019s menu of recipes also served as an exhibition for Canada\u2019s cultural mosaic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot too spicy, not too sweet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kid Food Nation winner Chaitanya\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/kidfoodnation.ytv.com\/recipes\/potato-cauliflower-aloo-gobi-with-fried-bread-poori\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aloo Gobi<\/a> is the tasty result of generations of family cooking. An Indian dish made from potatoes, cauliflower, and traditional south Asian spices, Chaitanya\u2019s prize-winning recipe is also the story of Canada\u2019s wave of immigration that shaped the country we know today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s traditional,\u201d said Chaitanya, a Boys and Girls Club member from Edmonton. \u201cMy mom makes it, my aunts used to make it in India, so when I saw my mom making it, I was like, &#8216;I want to try this.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Aptly named, Kid Food Nation is a cross-Canada movement that teaches kids cooking skills and promotes healthy habits.<\/p>\n<p>Engaging youth in the culture of food also connects them to their own heritage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am of Chilean origin,\u201d said Mirko, a contest winner from Qu\u00e9bec, when asked about his <a href=\"https:\/\/kidfoodnation.ytv.com\/recipes\/tacorrito\/\">Tacorrito<\/a> recipe. \u201cI love the food of Latin America. I have always had a passion for tacos, but also for burritos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne day, my dad and I had a genius idea of mixing the two dishes. The result is delicious, easy to make, and very popular in my family!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Set for a November release, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgccan.com\/kid_food_nation_winners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">26 winning meals<\/a> will be showcased in the Kid Food Nation cookbook.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgccan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/KFN-Facebook-Post-EN.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Behind every great meal is a great story.
