{"id":23972,"date":"2019-09-17T14:42:13","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T18:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bgccan.com\/?p=23972"},"modified":"2026-04-24T16:00:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T16:00:53","slug":"orange-shirt-day-is-a-reminder-that-every-child-matters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bgccan.com\/en\/orange-shirt-day-is-a-reminder-that-every-child-matters\/","title":{"rendered":"Orange Shirt Day is a reminder that every child matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Young people are the future of Reconciliation!<\/p>\n<p>From the Yukon to Calgary to Saint John, Boys and Girls Clubs across the country are deeply engaged in Indigenous programs and in Indigenous culture.<\/p>\n<p>Working with Indigenous youth in urban centres and rural communities, Clubs are taking a grassroots approach to Reconciliation, while at the national level a committee is working to create a comprehensive strategy to Indigenous programming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach small step is a step on the path of Reconciliation,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/bgcc2025.radiipc.com\/eden-valley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says Owen Charters<\/a>, President &amp; CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of Reconciliation, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada will be taking part in Orange Shirt Day on <strong>September 30, 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This day commemorates the thousands of First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit children who were removed from their homes at this time of the year and forced to attend residential schools.<\/p>\n<p>An Orange Shirt Day t-shirt design was contest held by the Saskatoon Club for its kids. Congratulations to Gianna\u2014her design will be featured on the official shirts worn by Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada\u2019s national team!
