On est enfin en mai. On pr\u00e9voit une m\u00e9t\u00e9o plus cl\u00e9mente presque partout au pays. \u00c7a fait maintenant plus de 50 jours qu\u2019on respecte la distanciation physique pour lutter contre le coronavirus.<\/p>\n

On commence \u00e0 entendre les plans de plusieurs provinces pour rouvrir les entreprises et retourner graduellement \u00e0 la vie en soci\u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Ce sont des plans pr\u00e9liminaires, graduels, et il semble qu\u2019on puisse commencer \u00e0 faire preuve d\u2019un optimisme prudent. On peut commencer \u00e0 esp\u00e9rer le retour d\u2019une partie de notre routine, de la vie qu\u2019on menait avant la pand\u00e9mie. Pour certains, comme moi, \u00e7a peut vouloir dire aller se faire couper les cheveux. Pour plusieurs, \u00e7a veut dire qu\u2019on peut commencer \u00e0 r\u00eaver au jour o\u00f9 nous pourrons retourner \u00e0 un semblant de vie normale dans nos Repaires jeunesse, continuer le travail que nous devons faire\u00a0: \u00eatre pr\u00e9sents pour les enfants, les ados et les familles qui comptent sur nous.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Mais la vie normale ne sera plus pareille. On doit se pr\u00e9parer \u00e0 une nouvelle r\u00e9alit\u00e9. Il y aura de nouvelles fa\u00e7ons de faire. De nouvelles pr\u00e9cautions. Des fa\u00e7ons de rester en sant\u00e9 et de se prot\u00e9ger. Et on continuera de maintenir une certaine distance entre nous.<\/p>\n

Le coronavirus reste un danger et, m\u00eame si la courbe s\u2019aplatit, derri\u00e8re les statistiques il y a de vraies personnes, de vraies familles, qui souffrent et qui perdent des \u00eatres chers. Nous devons continuer de nous prot\u00e9ger et de prendre les mesures n\u00e9cessaires pour garder les gens en sant\u00e9 et en s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Le mois de mai est synonyme de printemps, de gazon vert et de fleurs. Mais c\u2019est aussi le retour de la pluie et la neige qui fond. Les inondations font partie de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 \u00e0 ce temps-ci de l\u2019ann\u00e9e. Le Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort McMurray en Alberta est sous l\u2019eau alors que la ville est aux prises avec des inondations majeures. Comme le Repaire jeunesse offrait des services de garde d\u2019urgence, nous sommes en contact avec eux pour voir comment nous pouvons aider.<\/p>\n

On continue d\u2019entendre des histoires comme celle-l\u00e0; une accumulation de d\u00e9fis \u00e0 g\u00e9rer en pleine pand\u00e9mie. Ce n\u2019est pas facile. On vit tous un bouleversement \u00e9motionnel. On est tous confront\u00e9s \u00e0 des situations tr\u00e8s difficiles. On a tous eu des choix d\u00e9chirants \u00e0 faire.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cela \u00e9tant dit, j\u2019ai vu le c\u00f4t\u00e9 r\u00e9silient des Repaires jeunesse ressortir. On doit maintenant commencer \u00e0 planifier la r\u00e9ouverture. Pas un retour \u00e0 la normale, mais \u00e0 une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 un peu diff\u00e9rente. Une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 o\u00f9 nous pourrons accueillir les enfants \u00e0 nouveau. O\u00f9 nous devrons mettre de nouvelles mesures en place pour garder tout le monde en sant\u00e9 et en s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>

It\u2019s the first day of May. Better weather is predicted in much of the country. It\u2019s now been over 50 days since we entered this state of physical distancing and isolation to combat the coronavirus.<\/p>

We are now hearing from several provinces about plans to reopen businesses and start re-emerging into society.<\/p>

These are preliminary, go-slow plans, and it seems there is some cause for cautious optimism. We can start to hope that some of our routines, some of the life we had before the pandemic is going to come back. For some\u2014like me\u2014that might mean a haircut.\u00a0 For many, it means we can dream about getting back to the work we need to do, being present for the children, youth, and families that depend on us.<\/p>

But it won\u2019t be the same normal. We need to prepare for a new normal\u2014like an elastic band that\u2019s been stretched for months, we won\u2019t be going back to the same shape. There will need to be new ways to do things. New precautions. Ways to stay healthy and protected. There will be some continued forms of social distancing.<\/p>

The coronavirus remains a danger, and while the curve may be flattening, the statistics behind it remain the stories of real people and families who are suffering, and the deaths of loved ones. We must continue to protect from the spread of this insidious sickness and take the measures needed to keep people safe and healthy.<\/p>

May means spring, and it means the return of leaves, of green grass, of flowers. But it also means the return of rain and snow melt. Flooding is a reality at this time of year. Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort McMurray in Alberta is now underwater as the city wrestles with a major flood in the centre of the community. As a Club that was providing childcare to essential workers, we are reaching out to assist them in any way possible at this critical time.<\/p>

We continue to hear stories like this\u2014of the compounding challenges of managing in a pandemic. It is not easy. We are all going through emotional turmoil. We are all experiencing some of the most difficult situations we\u2019ve faced as organizations. We\u2019ve been faced with difficult, excruciating choices.<\/p>

With all that said, though, I have seen the resilient spirit of Clubs come through. It is time to start planning for re-opening. Not back to normal, but for a new normal. One where we can welcome kids back. One where we can stay healthy, and follow new protocols that keep us safe.<\/p>

We\u2019re not ready yet, but it\u2019s time to start planning for a different tomorrow.<\/p>
