Aujourd\u2019hui a lieu D\u00e9branche et allume, une journ\u00e9e o\u00f9 on c\u00e9l\u00e8bre le travail que nous accomplissons, en personne, dans les Repaires jeunesse.<\/p>\n
D\u00e9branche et allume met l\u2019emphase sur l\u2019importance de prendre une pause loin de nos \u00e9crans pour favoriser les rencontres face \u00e0 face. Ironiquement, la seule fa\u00e7on pour moi de connecter avec les autres aujourd\u2019hui, c\u2019est de mani\u00e8re virtuelle, par le biais de ce message par exemple.<\/p>\n
Et je vais vous dire une chose: je suis fatigu\u00e9. Tr\u00e8s fatigu\u00e9. <\/span><\/p>\n Fatigu\u00e9 d\u2019interagir virtuellement et non en personne. Et tr\u00e8s fatigu\u00e9 des m\u00eames probl\u00e8mes qui ne sont pas r\u00e9gl\u00e9s et qui ne cessent de refaire surface. <\/span><\/p>\n Cette semaine en a \u00e9t\u00e9 une d\u2019agitation et de bouleversements, entre autres en raison des manifestations contre le racisme aux \u00c9tats-Unis et partout dans le monde. <\/span><\/p>\n Ces manifestations, elles sont contre un syst\u00e8me qui a de nombreuses lacunes, des probl\u00e8mes majeurs qui n\u2019ont jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9gl\u00e9s. <\/span><\/p>\n Ma famille conna\u00eet le racisme. Lorsque mes grands-parents japonais sont arriv\u00e9s au Canada, \u00e0 cause du racisme institutionnalis\u00e9, \u00e7a n\u2019a pas pris beaucoup de temps pour qu\u2019ils soient d\u00e9pouill\u00e9s de tous leurs biens – leur maison, leur entreprise – et qu\u2019ils soient incarc\u00e9r\u00e9s dans des camps d\u2019internement en Colombie-Britannique parce qu\u2019ils provenaient d\u2019un pays ennemi. Ce n\u2019est qu\u2019un \u00e9v\u00e9nement dans toute l\u2019histoire du racisme, qui existe encore aujourd\u2019hui dans notre pays. <\/span><\/p>\n Le racisme contre les personnes noires, autochtones et de couleur est insidieux. Et c\u2019est ce contre quoi nos Repaires jeunesse luttent sans cesse, chaque jour – les effets d\u2019un racisme omnipr\u00e9sent.<\/p>\n Et je ne suis pas seul \u00e0 \u00eatre fatigu\u00e9 de cette lutte. Les membres de notre Conseil national des jeunes ont d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00eatre \u00abfrustr\u00e9s, furieux et \u00e9puis\u00e9s sur le plan \u00e9motif\u00bb. Lisez leur d\u00e9claration ici<\/a>, et celle de Repaires jeunesse du Canada ici<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n Les Repaires jeunesse font partie de la solution, et ils continuent de travailler fort pour affronter et \u00e9radiquer les effets du racisme. Ils enseignent des valeurs fondamentales telles que le sentiment d\u2019appartenance, le respect et l\u2019expression, qui sont essentiels \u00e0 l\u2019inclusion. <\/span><\/p>\n C\u2019est aussi le d\u00e9but du Mois de la Fiert\u00e9. Notre travail pour cr\u00e9er une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 juste, \u00e9quitable et s\u00fbre pour tous est crucial. Notre but est de faire en sorte que les jeunes puissent voir toutes les opportunit\u00e9s qui devraient s\u2019offrir \u00e0 eux et qu\u2019ils aient la chance d\u2019y acc\u00e9der.<\/p>\n Je sais que, malgr\u00e9 mon patrimoine culturel, je me consid\u00e8re comme une personne privil\u00e9gi\u00e9e et comme un alli\u00e9. Je dois agir. Vous devez agir. <\/span><\/p>\n Nous devons avoir ces discussions, difficiles, mais essentielles pour aller de l\u2019avant et faire respecter le droit des Noirs, des Autochtones et de tous les jeunes de couleur d\u2019\u00eatre des membres \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et de pouvoir marcher librement. Faites partie de la solution. Suivez les recommandations de notre CNJ: signez des p\u00e9titions. Appelez, textez ou envoyez des courriels. R\u00e9digez des lettres. Marchez, appuyez, donnez. Informez-vous et sensibilisez votre famille. Full transcript below.<\/em>\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\nToday is Unplug to Connect, a day where we celebrate the work we do in Clubs face to face.\r\n\r\nUnplug to Connect emphasizes how important it is to get disconnected from our devices and meet in person. Ironically, the only way for me to connect today is virtually, through this video, for instance.\r\n\r\nAnd I am going to tell you that I am tired. Really tired.\r\n\r\nTired of connecting virtually and not in person. And really tired of the same problems that don\u2019t get fixed.\r\n\r\nThis was a week of unrest and upheaval\u2014protests against anti-Black racism in the US and around the world.\r\n\r\nThese protests are against a system that has serious flaws, serious problems that are not getting fixed.\r\n\r\nMy family knows racism. When my Japanese grandparents arrived on the shores of Canada, it wasn\u2019t long before institutionalized racism meant they were stripped of all their belongings\u2014their homes, their business\u2014and incarcerated in internment camps in the interior of British Columbia as enemy aliens. It\u2019s only one incident in a legacy of racism that continues today in this country.\r\n\r\nRacism against Blacks, Indigenous, and People of Colour is insidious. It is what our Clubs contend with each and every day\u2014the effects of pervasive racism.\r\n\r\nI\u2019m not alone in being tired of this fight\u2014our National Youth Council have stated that \u201cwe are frustrated, angry, and emotionally exhausted.\u201d Read their full statement here,<\/a> and read Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada\u2019s statement here<\/a>.\r\n\r\nClubs are part of the solution, and they continue to work hard to confront and eradicate the effects of racism. They teach core values like Belonging, Respect, Speaking Out, which are central to creating inclusion.\r\n\r\nIt is also the start of Pride Month. Our work to create a society that is just, equitable, and safe for all is paramount. Our goal is to ensure youth can see and access all the opportunities that should be open to them.\r\n\r\nI know that despite my heritage I now stand here as a person with privilege, and as an ally. I must take action. You must take action.\r\n\r\nWe must have the difficult conversations and open dialogue that are necessary to move forward and ensure Black, Indigenous, and all youth of colour have the right to be full participants in society and to walk without fear. Be an active part of the solution.\u00a0 Do as our national youth council asks: Sign petitions. Call, text, and email. Write letters. Walk, demonstrate, donate. Educate yourself and your family.
