L<\/em>e partenariat offre aux jeunes la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019en apprendre davantage sur le mouvement de r\u00e9conciliation et de faire avancer celui-c<\/em><\/p>\n

Toronto (Ontario), le 18 octobre 2021. <\/strong>\u2013 Le Fonds Gord Downie et Chanie Wenjack s\u2019est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 BGC Canada pour fournir aux Clubs de tout le pays les bo\u00eetes \u00e0 outils des \u00e9coles du patrimoine<\/a>, qui permettront aux enfants et aux ados de participer au processus de r\u00e9conciliation par la sensibilisation, l\u2019information et l\u2019action.<\/p>\n

Les bo\u00eetes \u00e0 outils contiennent des ressources et des id\u00e9es d\u2019activit\u00e9s qui aideront le personnel \u00e0 susciter l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat des jeunes \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de la r\u00e9conciliation entre les peuples autochtones et non autochtones, et seront utilis\u00e9es dans le cadre des programmes existants des Clubs BGC ciblant principalement les Autochtones, comme Jeunes pour la r\u00e9conciliation<\/em>. Elles seront aussi int\u00e9gr\u00e9es \u00e0 d\u2019autres activit\u00e9s, ce qui constituera une excellente occasion de faire conna\u00eetre les visions du monde des peuples autochtones et de favoriser la compr\u00e9hension des cultures autochtones.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Offrir aux jeunes leaders autochtones et non autochtones des occasions significatives d\u2019ouvrir ensemble de nouvelles voies : voil\u00e0 un \u00e9l\u00e9ment essentiel en faveur de la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 et de la r\u00e9conciliation, affirme Owen Charters, pr\u00e9sident-directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de BGC Canada. L\u2019\u00e9quipe du Fonds Gord Downie et Chanie Wenjack a \u00e0 c\u0153ur d\u2019aider les jeunes de tout le pays \u00e0 prendre conscience des nombreuses fa\u00e7ons dont ils peuvent contribuer \u00e0 la r\u00e9conciliation et \u00e0 la construction d\u2019un avenir meilleur, ce qui nous inspire grandement. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Chaque bo\u00eete \u00e0 outils des \u00e9coles du patrimoine contient \u00e9galement un exemplaire du roman graphique Secret Path<\/em>, \u00e9crit par Gord Downie et illustr\u00e9 par Jeff Lemire. Ce livre raconte l\u2019histoire de Chanie Wenjack, un gar\u00e7on anishinaabe mort \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 12 ans en tentant de s\u2019\u00e9chapper d\u2019un pensionnat de l\u2019Ontario en 1966.<\/p>\n

R\u00e9pondant \u00e0 l\u2019appel \u00e0 l\u2019action de Gordon Downie \u00e0 \u00ab faire quelque chose \u00bb, le personnel des Clubs et les jeunes participeront \u00e0 la Semaine du chemin secret<\/a> du 17 au 22 octobre. L\u2019objectif : poser des \u00ab r\u00e9conciliACTIONS \u00bb au sein de leurs Clubs respectifs et de leurs communaut\u00e9s, et encourager les conversations et la sensibilisation au sujet des s\u00e9quelles permanentes provoqu\u00e9es par les pensionnats.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Les jeunes sont les leaders et les artisans du changement de demain, mais aussi d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui, d\u00e9clare Sarah Midanik, pr\u00e9sidente-directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du Fonds Gord Downie et Chanie Wenjack. Nous sommes ravis de pouvoir toucher davantage de jeunes gr\u00e2ce aux Clubs BGC, afin que les jeunes du Canada comprennent la v\u00e9ritable histoire et le triste h\u00e9ritage des pensionnats autochtones, et qu\u2019ils puissent aussi prendre la pleine mesure de la force et de la r\u00e9silience dont font continuellement preuve les peuples autochtones. \u00bb <\/p>\n

\u00c0 ce jour, 76 Clubs ont re\u00e7u la bo\u00eete \u00e0 outils, et d\u2019autres la recevront prochainement. Les Clubs recevront \u00e9galement chaque ann\u00e9e une trousse compl\u00e9mentaire comprenant des renseignements mis \u00e0 jour et de nouvelles ressources.<\/p>\n

Partnership creates more opportunities for young people to learn about and lead the reconciliation movement<\/em><\/p>

Toronto, ON, October 18, 2021<\/strong> \u2013 The Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund has partnered with BGC Canada to provide Clubs \u00a0in Canada with Legacy Schools<\/a> toolkits, empowering kids and teens to participate in reconciliation through awareness, education, and action.<\/p>

Containing resources and activities to help staff engage young people in reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, the toolkits will be used in existing Indigenous-focused programs at BGC Clubs, like Youth Leading Reconciliation<\/em>, and incorporated into other activities as an opportunity to teach Indigenous worldviews and cultural understanding.<\/p>

\u201cProviding meaningful opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous young leaders to forge new pathways together is a crucial contribution to Truth and Reconciliation,\u201d says Owen Charters, President & CEO, BGC Canada. \u201cWe are inspired by the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund\u2019s commitment to helping young people across the country realize the many ways they can contribute to reconciliation and build a better future.\u201d<\/p>

The Legacy Schools toolkits also include copies of the graphic novel Secret Path<\/em>, written by Gord Downie and illustrated by Jeff Lemire, which tells the story of Chanie Wenjack, a 12-year-old Anishinaabe boy who died while trying to escape an Ontario residential school in 1966.<\/p>

Answering Gord Downie\u2019s call to action \u201cDo Something,\u201d Club staff and youth will participate in Secret Path Week<\/a> October 17 \u2013 22 by creating reconciliACTIONs in their individual Clubs and communities and encouraging further conversations and education about the history and ongoing impact of residential schools.<\/p>

76 Club locations have received toolkits to date, with more to follow. Clubs will also receive a booster pack each year with updated information and new resources.<\/p>
