Dans cette \u00e9tude, on a compar\u00e9 la situation de 8\u00a0990\u00a0jeunes ayant particip\u00e9 aux programmes du Club BGC Winnipeg \u00e0 celle de 69\u00a0980 jeunes des m\u00eames groupes d\u00e9mographiques vivant dans des secteurs au m\u00eame code postal et ayant un v\u00e9cu semblable au leur, mais qui n\u2019avaient pas particip\u00e9 aux programmes du Club.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9tude de Winnipeg portait sur les donn\u00e9es li\u00e9es aux \u00e9tudes, \u00e0 la justice sociale et \u00e0 la sant\u00e9. La premi\u00e8re chose \u00e0 savoir\u00a0: qui fr\u00e9quente le Club? Tout d\u2019abord, l\u2019exp\u00e9rience BGC optimale se situe autour de 150\u00a0visites, soit moins d\u2019une ann\u00e9e scolaire \u00e0 fr\u00e9quenter le Club presque chaque jour. Le projet comprend le d\u00e9ploiement annuel d\u2019un sondage national sur les r\u00e9sultats et des entrevues approfondies avec les membres pour \u00e9tudier l\u2019incidence positive des Clubs dans quatre domaines cl\u00e9s\u00a0: les relations positives, l\u2019apprentissage continu, les modes de vie sains et les comp\u00e9tences en leadership. Le taux de participation des Clubs a \u00e9t\u00e9 renversant, et l\u2019\u00e9tude est d\u00e9j\u00e0 l\u2019une des plus importantes du genre au Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Au cours des deux\u00a0premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es du projet d\u2019apprentissage et d\u2019impact, les Clubs ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 sond\u00e9 12\u00a0570\u00a0jeunes. header_5_text_color=\"#003b4a\"]<\/p><p>In January 2020, I visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgcwinnipeg.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BGC Winnipeg<\/a> as they released a much-anticipated study delving into Club impact.<\/p><h5><strong>About the Winnipeg study<\/strong><\/h5><p>Conducted by the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy at the University of Manitoba, researchers looked at 12 years of data. They studied 8,990 children and youth who participated in the programs of the BGC Winnipeg, as compared to 69,980 children and youth who lived in the same postal codes and encountered similar life events and demographics\u2014but did not participate at the Club.<\/p><p>The Winnipeg study examined education, social (justice), and health outcomes. The first thing to note is who goes to the Club. The data shows these kids experience more adverse life events and experiences than most of the population, at a very significant rate.<\/p><p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=\"Winnipeg stats\" when these children and youth attend the Club. First, the optimal Club experience happens around 150 visits, or less than one school year of attending the Club almost daily. Positive impacts start even after a few visits, but at 150 visits and more, the positive effects impact attendees significantly.<\/p><ul><li><strong>Education:\u00a0<\/strong>Club kids demonstrated that they were performing academically at the expected average for their grade.\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Health:\u00a0<\/strong>The more a young person participated in the Clubs, the lower their risk of The project includes an annual deployment of a national outcomes survey and deep-dive interviews with members to explore the impact of Clubs in four key areas: positive relationships, lifelong learning, healthy living, and leadership skills. The participation from Clubs has been astounding and the study is already one of the largest of its kind in Canada.<\/p><p>In the first two years of the Learning &amp; Impact Project, Clubs have already surveyed 12,570 children and youth. Members told us that it\u2019s through opportunities to explore new things, the safe and welcoming environment of Clubs, and the relationships with staff and other kids that are making the difference.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgccan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/BGC-Learning-and-Impact-Project-Qualitative-Findings-2022.pdf\">You can find a summary of the key data here<\/a>.<\/p><p>This data is important. It underlines what we already know from anecdotal outcomes \u2013 the work of Clubs changes lives. In my remarks in Winnipeg, I noted that we rely a lot on the stories of how Clubs have impacted the children and youth served. And we always will.
