Canadian Youth Live in Poverty
Note: Despite accounting for approximately 5% of Canada’s population, poverty rates amongst Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) are disproportionately high. The experience of poverty amongst Indigenous populations is multifaceted and rooted in a long history of systemic violence and oppression. Communities that have faced systemic racial discrimination, exclusion, and other intersecting forms of oppression have higher poverty rates than White Canadians.
