Have a Heart Day
Created by the First Nations Child & Family Caring Society, Have a Heart Day brings people all across Canada together to help ensure First Nations children have the services they need to grow up safely at home, get a good education, be healthy, and be proud of who they are.
Every year on February 14, BGC Clubs across Canada are invited to host Have a Heart Day gatherings with Club members and staff of all ages and write messages to federal leaders to raise awareness about increased equity for First Nations children and youth.
Why is Have a Heart Day important?
For more than a decade, First Nation organizations like the First Nations Child and Family Society and the Assembly of First Nations have been advocating to the federal government on behalf of children who are unable to have access to basic necessary services such as health, education and child welfare.
This year is especially as important as First Nations continue to work with the federal government to ensure a deal is made that compensates First Nations children for Canada’s failure to provide these basic services
